What is hypnotherapy and is it safe?


Hypnosis or hypnotherapy involves a relaxing trance state. Something very common, and actually we all experience it every day of our lives. As a result it is a very safe and natural state. Whenever you become engrossed in a book and lose touch with time passing, then you’ve probably entered a self-induced hypnotic, hypnosis state. It is in this state that the subconscious mind is more aware and can choose to focus on positive suggestions and thoughts.

During hypnotherapy you will be extremely relaxed yet in a state of focused attention. In a hypnotic trance your mind is more responsive to suggestion. These suggestions are designed to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. However, it most definitely not any form of mind control. Can hypnotherapy make me do anything I don’t want to do?


Hypnotherapy cannot make you do something against your will. Contrary to the popular stage or film imagery, hypnotherapy is safe and you are in control. It does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind. No one can get you to do things that you do not want to do. If a suggestion is inappropriate for you, your mind will just ignore it. To be hypnotised, we must allow the process to take place by relaxing.
